School — including Sunday school — is back in session.
To mark the end of summer and the restarting of Bible studies, congregations are invited to celebrate Theological Education Sunday Sept. 15.
The office of Theological Education has prepared and made available Liturgical Resources and bulletin inserts to use during this special service.
The Committee on Theological Education (COTE) is preparing for its fall meeting Sept. 16 at Union Presbyterian Seminary in Charlotte, N.C. Representatives from the PC(USA) and partner seminaries will gather to discuss how to continue serving the PC(USA).
COTE’s chairperson, Teaching Elder Kathy Wolf Reed, has encouraged the committee to focus on a new theological education leadership initiative — becoming a theological education data resource for the whole church.
More than 6,000 congregations have given to the Theological Education Fund, the only source of denomination-wide funding for all PC(USA)-related seminaries.
“These funds keep the seminaries growing as they equip more and more leaders for the service of our church,” said Rose Niles, the PC(USA)’s associate for theological education and seminary relations. “This is why many churches check to be sure that the Theological Education Fund is in their budget and/or collect a special offering during this day to continue to support the transformational leaders that are being formed at our seminaries.”
