Churches often want to know more about the work of Presbyterian World Mission. And mission co-workers and world mission staff often want churches to know more about what they’re doing. Connecting churches with world mission is the challenge of recently hired consultant for mission leaders, the Rev. Christine Coy Fohr, who will serve primarily as a liaison between local mission leaders in the United States and Presbyterian World Mission. Christine began serving in the newly created position in June. She will be based in Louisville, Ky.
Christine previously served as interim director of Christian education and community outreach of Highland Presbyterian Church in Louisville, Ky.
“This position combines my love of churches and their ministries in communities with my desire to connect with the larger world,” Coy Fohr said. “The work that World Mission does is incredible, and having served both in stateside churches and in mission roles abroad, I have an understanding of the challenges on both sides and what the needs are of both. I look forward to helping connect them with each other.”
Christine is a native of Owensboro, Ky. She is a graduate of Rhodes College in Memphis, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology and Sociology. In 2003, while studying at Rhodes, she participated in a studies abroad program in Hungary focusing on reconciliation, a topic that had always intrigued her. She extended her study of the topic of reconciliation by serving as a Young Adult Volunteer with the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) from 2005 to 2006 in Northern Ireland, and was an intern in World Mission from 2006 to 2007.
In 2007, she enrolled at Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary, where she earned a Master of Divinity degree. Upon graduation, she worked for JustFaith Ministries, which provides programs that challenge people to explore Christ’s call to serve poor and vulnerable and served as Parish Associate at First Presbyterian Church in Owensboro in 2012. She came to work at Highland Presbyterian Church in Louisville from 2012 to 2013. Christine is married to Rob Fohr, Young Adult Catalyst for the Presbyterian Mission Agency.
“Christine was a perfect fit for this position,” says Hunter Farrell, director of World Mission. “She has the education and experience that help her reach out with compassion, knowledge and understanding to congregation mission leaders, pastors, and mission network leaders. She can help make the links between them that further our mission and work in the world.”
