Ecumenical News International (ENInews) announces that Solange De Santis has been appointed editor of the ecumenical news service on a one-year contract from March 2011 to March 2012.
“We are delighted that Solange has agreed to stay with ENInews,” said the Rev. Michel Kocher, president of Ecumenical News International. “We are very pleased with the work Solange has already done at ENInews and we are looking forward to her leadership to make ENInews even better.”
De Santis, who is based in New York, has been serving as interim editor of ENInews since Jan. 4, 2011.
“Ecumenical and interfaith dialogue can bring about a higher level of understanding and witness to the world. ENInews covers the world of faith from an unbiased and ecumenical point of view. It has played a significant role since its founding in 1994 and will continue to do so. I am delighted to have the opportunity to explore new horizons for ENInews,” De Santis said.
De Santis was most recently editor of Episcopal Life Media, the Episcopal Church’s national print and online news media. She was a staff writer at the Anglican Journal in Toronto for nine years, covering news and features of interest to the Anglican Church of Canada.
“Solange was chosen from a very strong field of international journalists,” said ENInews publisher David Harris, who chaired the search committee. “That speaks volumes about Solange’s ability and it also speaks well of ENInews that it attracted so many highly qualified candidates.”
Prior to the Anglican Journal, De Santis was a correspondent in the Toronto bureau of the Wall Street Journal. Her professional experience also includes six years with Reuters as a correspondent in Los Angeles and Canada News Editor in Toronto. She began her career with the Associated Press broadcast wire in New York.
De Santis holds a master’s degree from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism and a bachelor’s degree from Barnard College. She is currently earning a master’s degree in education from New York University.
ENI is sponsored by the World Council of Churches, the Conference of European Churches, the World Communion of Reformed Churches and the Lutheran World Federation.
