Church educators across the country are being offered the opportunity to try the new Feasting on the Word Curriculum: Teaching the Revised Common Lectionary for free. Churches are encouraged to sign up for Sample Sunday, which takes place on March 20, 2011, by registering at feastingontheword.net/curriculum.

Now available for preorder, Feasting on the Word Curriculum is based on the award-winning commentary series Feasting on the Word: Preaching the Revised Common Lectionary. This ecumenical, downloadable resource incorporates the uniqueness of the commentaries, which provide four different approaches to teaching biblical passages in the Revised Common Lectionary. Adaptable to a variety of learning settings and teaching styles, this innovative curriculum integrates the Feasting on the Word commentary style to explore lectionary passages in ways suitable for all participants.

Feasting on the Word Curriculum—published by Westminster John Knox Press in collaboration with Congregational Ministries Publishing—is designed for classroom use in the church among various age levels, including children, youth, and adult. Everyone explores the same passage each week, making it easy for families to learn and live out their faith together. In addition, Joining the Feast, a 16-page quarterly resource for pastors, intentionally links the worship experience to educational themes found in the curriculum throughout the church year.

Carol Wehrheim, general editor of Feasting on the Word Curriculum, states, “I am both excited and proud to offer this innovative resource to the church. The sessions are easy to use and have much potential to bring all ages together in study and worship. In a fragmented time like ours, what a wonderful gift for any congregation, a resource to help individuals and age groups connect as we learn about our faith as it is practiced at home and together in the church.”

Barbara Brown Taylor, co-general editor of Feasting on the Word commentaries, says, “Teachers eager to lead learners of all ages into fresh encounters with ancient texts will find two important things in this series: first, a host of practical resources to engage the teacher’s own imagination; and second, a team of creative colleagues who know how to put their collective experience into words.”
