The Rev. Jim Tebbe, vice-president of missions for InterVarsity Chistian Fellowship, has been named president of Friends of Forman Christian College (FCC) in Lahore, Pakistan, and president-designate of the college.
Tebbe and his wife, Beth, will move to Lahore in the summer of 2011 to succeed Peter Armacost as FCC president, and complete the two-year leadership transition. His term as president of Friends began July 1.
For the first year of the transition, Tebbe will work in the United States, raising awareness and funds for the college, recruiting faculty and developing a communication strategy.
Tebbe, who was born in Pakistan and spent most of his early life there, is the son of the late Bob Tebbe, who served as FCC president from 1968-1969. He knows Urdu, the country’s national language and has published several scholarly articles on Pakistani ideology and higher education. He was ordained through the Lahore (Presbyterian) Church Council in Pakistan in 1978.
Tebbe has served at InterVarsity since 2002, where he directed three Urbana triennial mission conferences. From 1977-2002, he served with Interserve, a Christian mission organization focused on Asia and the Arab world.
Tebbe is a graduate of Indiana University and Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in Boston. He has advanced degrees in Near Eastern studies/Islamics from Princeton University and in religious studies from St. John’s Nottingham/Open University.
