POINT volunteers lead the way in assisting churches with educational ministry

LOUISVILLE— Presbyterians Organized in Nurture and Teaching (POINT) is a volunteer network of Christian educators who offer education expertise and curriculum interpretation skills to churches in their area. POINT training, hosted by Congregational Ministries Publishing (CMP), provides in-depth training on denominational curricula.

Persons who are enthusiastic about denominational curriculum are good candidates for POINT training. “It’s exciting to see the enthusiasm of the group and to hear the POINT representatives tell about ways they’ve successfully used a piece of curriculum,” says Malinda Spencer, Associate for Curricula Training and Promotion, Congregational Ministries Publishing. Every presbytery is encouraged to send two POINT representatives to participate in the training. Those representatives return to their presbytery and are available to share information about denominational curricula.

“I have been a POINT person for many years, reaching out and resourcing local congregations, particularly smaller ones who don't have the benefit of paid education staff people,” said Leslee Kirkconnell, Director of Christian Education, The Presbyterian Church of Bowling Green, KY. “The training and ideas I receive during POINT training are critical to my ministry, as I can see and touch, and in some cases, play with the new resources offered by PC(USA). The workshops I have attended are creatively constructed, giving time to review resources, see and hear what's new, and experience one or more activities. This enables me to be better prepared for sharing ideas and the really great materials we are publishing.
