At a time when several major Christian denominations are divided over LGBTQ inclusion, Susan Cottrell’s new book helps parents navigate the next steps after their child has come out. Offering advice and encouragement, Mom, I’m Gay,” Revised and Expanded Edition: Loving Your LGBTQ Child and Strengthening Your Faith(Westminster John Knox Press)helps parents respond with love and kindness, rather than trying to change their child

“Mom, I’m Gay” helps parents love and embrace their LGBTQ children as an expression (not contradiction) of their Christian faith. While reexamining Bible verses often used against the LGBTQ community, Cottrell writes, “Do not throw your Bible at your child in a blind panic. Instead, take those verses that trouble you, along with what you’ve internalized from church, and ask God about it. Let God reveal God’s heart on this.”

Including a Foreword by Justin Lee, Susan Cottrell's book provides hope in a time of uncertainty, “I encourage you to set aside what you already know (or think you know) on the moral and cultural issues surrounding homosexuality and ask God to show you afresh what is in store for you.”

“Mom, I’m Gay,” Revised and Expanded Edition is available for purchase through Westminster John Knox Press and other major retailers.

Susan Cottrell is the prominent voice for faith parents of LGBTQ children, as a national speaker, teacher and theologian. Through her nonprofit—FreedHearts.org—Susan champions the LGBTQ community and families. She and her husband Rob have been married nearly 30 years and have five children, two of whom are in the LGBTQ community.
