Burke, Va., Presbyterian Church honored
Burke (Virginia) Presbyterian Church was awarded the Nancy Jennings Award from the Presbyterians for Disability Concerns during the 222nd General Assembly (2016) of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).
The award recognizes exemplary efforts of affirmation, support and advocacy for the gifts, rights, and responsibilities of persons with disabilities in the life of the church.
The church, in the small city of Burke, Virginia, was recognized for its Tree House ministry, a program created to provide “a safe and friendly place for people living with long-term and life-altering conditions such as depression, lingering grief, traumatic injuries, chronic or degenerative diseases.”
The award was presented Tuesday evening during the Compassion, Peace and Justice dinner.
