General Assembly Entity Coordination Committee has a lengthy agenda to work through

The General Assembly Entity Coordination Committee has a dozen items of business and eight reports for consideration when it meets online June 25-27 as part of the 226th General Assembly.

Among the items of business for the committee, led by Moderator Franzetta Turner of the Presbytery of the Western Reserve and Vice-Moderator Ralph Clingan of the Presbytery of Utah, are:

• GAEC-01, a proposal by the Presbyterian Foundation that the name and email address of the clerk of session be added to the Session’s Annual Statistical Report.
• GAEC-02, the Women of Faith Awards.
• GAEC-04, the re-election of David Dobson as Presbyterian Publishing Corporation’s president and publisher.
• GAEC-08, confirmation of the election of Ruling Elder Kathy Lueckert to another four-year term as president of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), A Corporation.
• The General Assembly Committee on Representation recommends passage of GAEC-23, which would expand the capacity for economically diverse participation on boards, commissions and committees.
• GAEC-24 would recognize the National Caucus of Korean Presbyterian Churches as a caucus of the PC(USA). The Presbytery of the Pacific is bringing the overture, with concurrence from 15 mid councils.
•  GAEC-25, brought by the Presbytery of Des Moines, seeks to direct Research Services to conduct a churchwide study to examine the frequency of churches experiencing financial hardship due to rising costs, higher deductibles, non-renewals and unavailability of church property and casualty insurance — primarily caused by more frequent catastrophic weather events due to climate change. The overture says the study should determine if these insurance issues are disproportionately affecting small churches, congregations in rural settings and congregations of color, as well as the mid councils that serve such churches.
• GAEC-26, “On Realigning Self-Development of People with its Historical Purpose,” is an overture by the Presbytery of the Pacific. It directs SDOP to allocate an initial $5 million to put in place infrastructure and resourcing followed by a recurring $1 million investment annually for 25 years. It’s being opposed by the Racial Equity Advocacy Committee and the Advisory Committee on Social Witness Policy.
• GAEC-28, from the Synod of Lakes and Prairies, overtures the General Assembly to work with the Board of Pensions “to ensure adjustments are made to medical plans for pastors and spouses or families, eliminating the undue burden on small congregations and ensuring the affordability of medical coverage for pastoral leaders needing family coverage in 2026 and beyond.”
• GAEC-29 asks the assembly to confirm terms on the Presbyterian Historical Society Board of Directors.
