#MeToo, women’s equality panel set for Nov. 9 at SFTS

LOUISVILLE — Women’s equality issues specific to the church are at the heart of a Nov. 9 panel discussion from 2:30 p.m. through 4 p.m. PST at Scott Hall on the campus of San Francisco Theological Seminary, 105 Seminary Road in San Anselmo, Calif.

Four panelists and a moderator will explore these topics and more:

• The church as a place for dealing with past trauma
• Misconduct by congregants against women pastors
• The sense of entitlement by some that excuses or enables assault.

The panel event is sponsored by the seminary and by the Presbyterian Mission Agency’s Advisory Committee on Social Witness Policy.

Here’s the list of panelists:

• Rev. Dr. Teresa Chávez-Sauceda, assistant professor of ministry and director of Advanced Pastoral Studies, SFTS
• Dr. Laurie Garrett-Cobbina, chief diversity officer and assistant professor of Pastoral Care and Education, SFTS
• Dr.Sylvia Thorson-Smith, a member of the PC(USA)’s Advisory Committee on Social Witness Policy
• Darcy Metcalfe, a Ph.D. student at the University of Iowa and a member of the Advisory Committee on Social Witness Policy
• Beverly Brewster, who will moderate the panel and is pastor of the Sleepy Hollow Presbyterian Church in San Anselmo.
