The Prophet Isaiah and Jesus: The light of the world

Isaiah 9:2 • The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has light shined.
We all need light. The first light for a dark night came from fire. Many of us have sat around a campfire as the flames provided both light and warmth.
God is light (1 John 1:5). The power of God’s light illumines and warms. Jesus is “the light of the world” (John 8:12). He enables us to see the presence of God and warms us with his love. He is our light and our salvation, and even in darkness we discern the way of God. Our charge is to share God’s light with others.
Lord, shine your light upon our path so that we may follow you wherever you lead. Amen.
