On Friday, March 11, Japan experienced an 8.9 magnitude earthquake, which created a tsunami that affected the Pacific Rim. This morning there were estimates that up to 10,000 people could have been killed in Japan, where some towns were virtually destroyed.
On top of these two natural disasters, there are also threats from three damaged nuclear reactors at the Fukushima Daiichi plant along Japan's northeastern coast. Read a primer on the nuclear crisis, which is currently termed a "partial meltdown."
On Friday Presbyterian leaders sent out a call for prayer for people affected by these disasters.
