The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Human Affairs and the Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre have released a report that states that in 2008, 20 million people were displaced by climate related natural disasters such as droughts, hurricanes, and floods. The study urges regular assessment ofthese figures, which has not been done in the past. The Fourth Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change states that climate change will contribute to a rise in the frequency and intensity of weather-related disasters.
