Brian Frick is the Associate for Camp and Conferences Ministries with the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). He has been involved in camp and conference ministry since high school. For the past ten years, Brian has served as program director of Johnsonburg Center in New Jersey, Westminster Woods in California, and Heartland Center in Missouri.
Camp and conference ministry compliments and partners with other ministry aspects of our church to foster faith development and reflection. As our communities and our church changes, our ministries need to grow and adapt with creative and emergent programming and leadership to meet new realities.
These blogs entries, though varied, are intended to spur thought and conversation around the opportunities and challenges before us.
These are specific year long service opportunities available this fall in our Dwell program. Our partner agencies rely on Dwell to fill their staff teams and expand their services. Term of service starts August 31. All living expenses are covered. Program details below positions. Application deadline is June 30.

-Large citywide food distribution agency: resource
counseling and emergency food bank.
-Volunteer coordinator for after school program, food pantry, seniors program,
and renewal program for ex-offenders.
•
Social work/International Relations- Case manager settling refugees.
• Education/Social Work- Work with seniors during the day and
youth after school at a local drop in community center.
• Social Work- Various capacities at a home for homeless
expectant women.
• Law- Work as a paralegal in an immigration law office.
• Construction- Assist in all aspects of the building process
* Volunteer Department Assistant of a very large homeless shelter in all areas of the ministry; the women and children’s shelter, the men’s education center and the child development center.
* A college graduate interested in education to teach in a church-run charter school of low income families of predominantly Haitian ethnicity.
* Organize and train individuals within local churches to reach their community of low wage earners by way of food banks or shelter programs. Spanish is required.
* Serve intensely diverse children and youth in church based after-school tutoring program.
* Initiate and lead athletic clubs/teams for children and youth in the migrant farm worker housing centers as an outreach into the families. Spanish a plus.
Working with homeless families.
Working with a men’s shelter that focuses on men with disabilities or illness.
Church based position working with Latino kids and youth.
Case Management with homeless and working poor guests.
Program Details
Applications are due June 30 including 3 references. Upon receipt of complete application, an intake phone interview will be scheduled. After the intake conversation, applicants are referred to City Director for placement interview.
Provided by DOOR-Dwell; All basic living expenses: Housing, utilities, health insurance, groceries, monthly public transportation pass. Three retreats. Common service projects as a team unit. Oversight and supervision of program, mediation as needed.
Required from the participant; Application complete with 3 references. Commitment to simple living, intentional Christian community, monthly reflection letters, and fundraising- Atlanta, Denver, and Miami $6500, San Antonio $4500. Full participation in community activities. Transportation to site.
