Imitate God, practice kindness
Psalm 145:9
The LORD is good to all, and his compassion is over all that he has made.
Many of us know about the legend of St. Nicholas, the fourth-century bishop who lived in Myra, Asia Minor (now Turkey). He was a kind man who had a reputation for helping the poor and giving secret gifts to people who needed them. His compassion gave rise to benevolent figures around the world, such as Father Christmas, Kris Kringle and Santa Claus.
Every Christmas, people around the world honor St. Nicholas by giving gifts, especially to the young and the needy. It’s a little like imitating God for a day and embodying some of the divine qualities the psalmist describes: “awesome deeds,” “abundant goodness” and “steadfast love.” Imagine how different the world would be if we decided to imitate God every day by practicing kindness.

El Señor es bueno con todos, y se compadece de toda su creación.
La mayoría conocemos la leyenda de San Nicolás, el obispo del siglo cuarto que vivió en Myra, Asia Menor (ahora Turquía). Era un hombre amable que tenía fama de ayudar a los pobres y hacer regalos en secreto a las personas necesitadas. Su compasión dio origen a figuras benevolentes alrededor del mundo como Papá Noel, Kris Kringle y
Santa Claus.
Cada Navidad, la gente de todo el mundo honra a San Nicolás al dar regalos, especialmente a las personas más jóvenes y necesitadas. Es una especie de imitación de Dios por un día y de encarnación de las cualidades divinas que el salmista describe: «sublimes obras», «inmensa bondad» y «grande Misericordia». Imagínate lo distinto que sería el mundo si decidiéramos imitar a Dios cada día al practicar la bondad.
