May/June 2008
Washington Report to Presbyterians
This issue of Washington Report to Presbyterians is devoted entirely to the topic of the world food crisis. The articles included address:
June 16, 2008
The Presbyterian Washington Office will be closed Friday, June 20 through Friday, June 27 so that the staff can attend the General Assembly in San Jose, California. Our preparation for GA and our attendance throws into question our availability to publish the Witness in Washington Weekly on Monday, June 23 and June 30, but we will do our best to follow legislation in Washington those weeks and publish the WWW.
This week’s messages are:
- Have You Called in Sick This Year?
- Climate Debate Follow-Up
- Register Now: 2008 Presbyterian Peacemaking Conference
- Matthew 17: 14-21 – Faith the Size of a Mustard Seed

Get election year resources
It is once again time to listen to the candidates, make up our minds and head
to the polls. The Washington Office invites you to get involved as a faithful
citizen in the electoral process. Use the “Christian
and Citizen” resources
as a guide this election year.

Second Tuesdays
The Washington Office offers assistance to Presbyterians who wish to visit
their Members of Congress in Washington. A special program
of issue briefings and congressional visits is offered to groups of Presbyterians
on the second Tuesday of each month.
The next Second Tuesday is July 8.

When Jesus was asked to state the greatest commandment,
he replied, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart ... And
a second is like it, you shall love your neighbor as yourself." In this
complex age, one way we love our neighbors is to help shape the laws and policies
that define how we live together in God's world.

How
to Be an Effective Advocate
Our lawmakers' votes are influenced by their personal views,
their party's positions, the advice of staff, friends and lobbyists. But the
single most important influence is constituent opinion.
