The mission of the
Synod of South Atlantic is to serve Jesus Christ and the Presbyterian
Church (U.S.A.) faithfully by encouraging cooperation among
sessions, presbyteries, and the General Assembly by supporting
the ministries of its 16 presbyteries, 976 churches, and 267,875
members.
The synod serves this mission through supporting development
of new churches, transformation of congregations, and development
of racial ethnic congregations. It serves this mission by providing
scholarships for theological education, covenanting with church-related
institutions within its bounds, and fulfilling the constitutional
and administrative responsibilities assigned to it in the Book
of Order. It
also serves this mission by facilitating conversation between governing
bodies and offering pastoral care and support to each presbytery
staff member.
The synod has covenant relationships with Columbia Theological
Seminary, Johnson C. Smith Theological Seminary, Agnes Scott
College, Eckerd College, Presbyterian College, Rabun Gap-Nacoochee
School, Thornwell Home for Children, The Duvall Presbyterian
Home, Florida Presbyterian Retirement Homes, Villa International,
and Westminster Retirement Communities. |
