Two or three times
a year a PC(USA) regional liaison travels to rural areas of
Cambodia where there are newly emerging groups of Christians.
In February 2007, he traveled with Brian, a Filipino graduate
student. As the villagers shared from the Bible and worshiped
God, it became apparent that they carried deep pain and hurt.
Brian asked if they felt like God didn’t love them. They
all replied, “Yes!” Church leaders invited the people
to pray for a revelation of God’s love. The presence of
the Spirit came. Later people shared what they had experienced.
One of them saw a vision of the Father reaching his arms to
his children. They opened up to each other, sharing their burdens
and praying for one another, experiencing the comfort and love
of God.
Prayer
Dear God, we pray for the leaders of the emerging Cambodian
church that they might know the incomparable riches of God’s
grace, expressed in the kindness of Jesus Christ. Amen.
Laos
Nestled in the countryside, several hours from the capital
city, a group of about fifty Christians gathered weekly to worship
Jesus as Lord and Savior. In 2005, a husband and wife who had
recently been trained as lay leaders were sent to pastor this
group of believers. Although the communist government has opposed
Christian efforts, during their first year of ministry the church
more than tripled in size to about 180 members. Both the husband
and wife had received visions from the Lord, and both were obedient
to the guidance they received. The wife began an embroidery
project with neighborhood women, and the husband was led by
a vision to a healing ministry. Eight nearby villages now testify
to the power of the risen Christ in these gatherings. |
