Ted and Sue Wright were appointed in July 2005 to serve as regional
liaisons for east and central Africa with special attention to
Malawi, Mozambique, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and Angola. They will help
connect PC(USA) churches and middle governing bodies with partner
churches and institutions in the area and will support other PC(USA)
mission personnel in the area. Their programmatic focus is on
the Evangelism and Church Growth Program in Southern Africa, which
is supported by WMD’s Office of International Evangelism
and the Outreach Foundation.
Until his appointment as a mission co-worker, Ted had been the
pastor and head of staff of the Langhorne Presbyterian Church
in suburban Philadelphia for 22 years. “Though our church
had a partnership with a congregation in Zimbabwe,” writes
Ted, “neither Sue nor I had seriously considered serving
overseas.”
Then they came to know Bob and Bobbi Snyder, PC(USA) mission
workers in southern Africa. After learning of the Snyders’
intent to retire, the Wrights went on a mission trip sponsored
by the Outreach Foundation. After that trip they felt clearly
that God was calling them to serve in Africa.
Most recently, Susan, a licensed
social worker, has been self-employed as a clinical therapist
and social worker for children and adults, including family and
marital counseling. She facilitated a divorce group at a local
Presbyterian church and, most recently, was a therapist for children
in foster care.
Ted has an M.Div. from Princeton Theological Seminary in Princeton,
New Jersey, and a B.A. in philosophy and religion from Amherst
College in Amherst, Massachusetts. Sue holds a master’s
degree in clinical social work from the Bryn Mawr College Graduate
School of Social Work and Social Research in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania,
and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Massachusetts
in Amherst, Massachusetts. |
