A Bright Idea for Our Climate: Youth Compact Fluorescent Light Bulb Project

  clf image
  Gold Divider Rule

In this ecumenical project, youth learn more about climate change, teach that knowledge to the congregation, and become part of real change in God's great creation! By selling Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs in their congregation, youth groups can make money for mission trips or other special projects while raising awareness of what a difference CFLs can make for the environment.

Using just one CFL:

  • Keeps 2.1 ounces of soot out of the air
  • Saves 3.15 lbs. of sulfur dioxide
  • Reduces nitrogen oxide by 1.71 lbs.
  • Reduces Carbon Dioxide by 463.5 lbs.

A youth group, individual, or church can view, download or order a hard-copy of the educational packet at Youth CFL Project. This packet of materials is your gateway to getting on board and getting your CFLs!

To share your success story with this project, contact Rebecca Barnes-Davies, Presbyterian Environmental Justice Office, (888) 728-7228, x5811.
